Shannon Lindsey-Frugis presents The Influence of Brazilian Culture on Brazilian Bikini Design and exhibition of textiles, surface design, and bikini design as a way to explore the hybrid culture in Brazil through the iconic Brazilian bikini. Six bikinis explore cultural elements in Brazil: the Yanomami indigenous culture, immigrant Portuguese, and African. An artist book complete with historical references, processes, and final images of the bikinis will be on display.
Nina Dark’s study focused on the specific skills the fashion industry places on sweater designers. I interviewed eight sweater professionals in Los Angeles, and followed the process of sweater design outlined by them. The end product of this process was a swatch board, a figure sketch, flat sketches and two knitted pieces. The pieces were exhibited at the Fine Arts Gallery on Cal State LA campus. The pieces are supposed to reflect a beach-loving, youthful and care-free spirit of a young Californian female in her early 20-s.
